Scope of the Capacity Management
In this short article we will write a few words about the scope of the Capacity Management (CM).
The CM process as an element of the ITIL Service Delivery. The main purpose of it is to agree business needs with the available IT resources with the possible low cost but without loss to the quality of the service provided. Thus the balance between the costs and the capacity should be maintained.
The scope of the Capacity Management encompass almost all elements of IT as it is important to take as much elements into the account – the less elements are omitted the more accurate estimation of future costs and savings could be done. The following items are taken into consideration within the process:
- Computer hardware, network resources
- Software
- People
- Other environment like warming/cooling equipment, furniture for staff
All of above builds the model of costs and savings which is analyzed from the today's and future's business requirements point of view.
