Configuration Management - key words
Before describing detail main activities conducted within the Configuration Management let me introduce you to the set of basic words frequently used in this area.
Configuration Item - An element of the bigger structure; could be seen as an indivisible functional part of IT infrastructure or system as well as another complex structure. This could be a piece of hardware (i.e a mobile device), software, a service, a product license, documentation.
Attribute - A feature of the CI (examples: identification number, a name, a model sign)
Relation - a relationship between configuration items within CMDB.
Lifecycle - a chain of states of the CI. There could be more than one state of the given CI within CMDB. The CI could be "completed", "authorized", "to be documented" etc.
